Cahier de textes (cayay de text = school planner)
This is what a school planner looks like here in France. At Big Sister's school the children write in their homework one week in advance so they (and their parents) know what is coming up. It also allows the kids to work at their own pace and have extra time to prepare for the spelling tests that they have twice a week.
I remember my own agenda including things like maps and size conversion charts. Big Sister's includes the list of daily name holidays. Each day has its own patron saint and after the evening news you can find out (during the weather report) which of your colleagues you should congratulate on his or her fête the following day.
If Big Sister gets bored, she can have fun coloring in the flags of various European countries.
