Nailing Your Baguette to the Wall!

Tant pis pour vous! (tan pee poor voo = too bad, so much the worse)

One of my sometimes numerous pet peeves about living here is that when you've gotten up early, have taken the kids to school at 8h30 and are ready to start your day and  . . . .pffffffffff. Nothing is open before 9 at the earliest. Yes, maybe you can find some bar/tabac that will sell you a cup of coffee, but forget about the croissant, or sitting.  Even McDonald's will open for breakfast sometime around 10. The supermarkets open at 9. Let's face it some days the exciting thing to do for the day is go to one of our many hypermarchés. Hyper because they sell more than just food, exciting because something might catch your eye and in the summer it's air conditioned next to the frozen peas.

So I was pleasantly surprised when I saw a new place open up. A boulangerie to be exact. A boulangerie exactly 4 minutes drive from the school. He who says boulangerie says open early! This one is open from 7h30 and they also run a restaurant so you can actually have a good cup of coffee with the newspaper that they also sell, in a calm environment.  When I was there I noticed that they had these whimsical breads on the wall as art. A closer inspection revealed that they were real shellacked breads screwed onto boards. You can thank me for this great DIY idea. . . .  riiiiiight. Anyhow, their food is very good, as is their coffee--which for me is a crucial part of the day.

Easy craft project . . .

They even have trees inside!

Please Note : If this were Paris . . . .whole other story. There are like a million cafés per block, all open early enough to watch the street cleaners.
