The Flip-Side of the Seine Part II : La Défense

Did you know that after you grab your morning croissant,

Yummmmmy croissants to be had here at the Enchanted Flute, which is a play on words. It means both the musical instrument and the shape of a baguette, "une flûte".

You can drive into the business hub known as "La Défense" and see another side of Paris?

La Défense is 160 hectares of pure business. Built in 1958 at the initiative of Charles De Gaulle, it is characterized by the prominent architectural structure known as La Grande Arche.  The General wanted to build something different to showcase the country's economic advancement. Hotels, apartment buildings, and an underground shopping center add a touch of softness to an otherwise concrete microcosm.

It's a bit of a change from the dainty Haussmanian architecture of le vieux Paris, n'est pas?
