French Food Fridays : La Tourte

What happens when you ask for some bread . . . . 

You might end up with a loaf the size of a pumpkin!
It's called a tourte (toort) and in Husband's childhood this was the staple bread at his grandparents' farm. The thick crust meant that it kept for weeks.
I guess that's a good thing.
